TP Solar Limited, the solar manufacturing arm and wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, has reported a strong manufacturing performance during the April–December 2025 period (first nine months of FY26).
During this period, TP Solar manufactured 2.8 GW of domestically manufactured solar cells and 2.9 GW of solar modules, reflecting continued capacity ramp-up and operational efficiency at one of India’s largest integrated solar manufacturing facilities.
Manufacturing Output Details
TP Solar’s production during the nine-month period highlights a balanced focus on both domestic content requirement (DCR) and ALMM-compliant modules.
Key production figures (Apr–Dec 2025):
- Solar cells manufactured: 2.8 GW (DCR cells)
- Solar modules manufactured: 2.9 GW
- DCR modules: 2.4 GW
- ALMM-certified modules: 0.5 GW
The output supports both government-backed solar programmes and commercial utility-scale projects, where compliance with domestic manufacturing norms is increasingly critical.
Q3 FY26 Performance Highlights
In Q3 FY26, TP Solar recorded a sharp increase in solar cell production:
- Cell production: 940 MW in Q3 FY26 vs 196 MW in Q3 FY25
- Year-on-year growth: Nearly 5x
- Module production: 990 MW vs 927 MW in Q3 FY25
- Module growth: ~7 percent year-on-year
The strong growth in cell manufacturing reflects improved equipment utilisation, process optimisation, and stabilisation of advanced manufacturing lines.
Tirunelveli Manufacturing Facility
TP Solar operates a 4.3 GW integrated solar cell and module manufacturing facility at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, one of the largest single-location solar manufacturing units in India.
The facility is equipped with advanced TOPCon and Mono PERC technologies, enabling the production of high-efficiency solar cells and modules that meet both domestic and global quality standards.
A notable feature of the plant is its inclusive workforce, with nearly 80 percent women employees, highlighting TP Solar’s focus on diversity and social impact alongside industrial scale-up.
Strategic Investment and Indigenisation Push
The manufacturing facility has been developed with an investment of approximately ₹4,300 crore by Tata Power Company Limited, through Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited.
This investment represents a key milestone in strengthening indigenisation across the solar value chain, reducing import dependence, and supporting India’s domestic manufacturing ecosystem under national renewable energy and self-reliance initiatives.
Technology and Product Portfolio
The Tirunelveli plant produces:
- DCR solar cells and modules using Made-in-India cells
- ALMM-certified solar modules for utility-scale and rooftop projects
- High-efficiency products based on TOPCon and Mono PERC platforms
These capabilities position TP Solar to cater to a wide range of projects, from government tenders to private-sector deployments.
Why This Matters
TP Solar’s strong manufacturing output underscores the growing maturity of India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem. Key implications include:
- Improved availability of domestically manufactured solar components
- Support for government-led solar deployment programmes
- Enhanced supply chain resilience amid global uncertainties
- Strengthening India’s position as a solar manufacturing hub
The scale-up of integrated cell and module manufacturing is critical for meeting India’s long-term renewable energy and net-zero targets.
Industry Outlook
India’s solar manufacturing sector is witnessing accelerated capacity utilisation as project pipelines expand and policy frameworks increasingly favour domestic production. Manufacturers with integrated facilities, advanced technologies, and proven execution capabilities are expected to play a central role in the next phase of solar growth.
With sustained investments, technology upgrades, and operational improvements, TP Solar is well positioned to support India’s clean energy transition while contributing to global solar supply chains.
