REC Subsidiary RECPDCL Completes Handover of Two Transmission SPVs in Maharashtra

REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, has successfully completed the handover of two project-specific Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) for intra-state transmission projects in Maharashtra. The handover was executed on 9 January 2026 under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework.

The projects are aimed at strengthening Maharashtra’s transmission network and supporting reliable power evacuation to meet rising electricity demand.

Velgaon Power Transmission Project

RECPDCL handed over Velgaon Power Transmission Limited to Ceigall India Limited, which emerged as the successful bidder through the TBCB process conducted by RECPDCL.

The project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis with an implementation period of 24 months.

Project scope includes:

  • Establishment of a 400/220 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Velgaon
  • LILO of 400 kV double-circuit transmission lines
  • LILO of 220 kV double-circuit and single-circuit transmission lines
  • Associated transmission infrastructure works

The SPV was formally handed over by Vijay Kulkarni, Senior General Manager & Head (T&D), RECPDCL, to Sudhir Rao Hoshing, Whole-time Director of Ceigall India Limited.

Jejuri–Hinjewadi Transmission Project

On the same day, RECPDCL also handed over Jejuri Hinjewadi Power Transmission Limited to The Tata Power Company Limited, selected as the successful bidder through the TBCB route.

This project will also be executed under the BOOT model with an implementation timeline of 24 months.

Project scope includes:

  • Construction of a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line
  • Approximate line length of 115 km
  • Connectivity from Jejuri (existing substation) to Hinjewadi
  • Associated transmission system works

The SPV was handed over by Vijay Kulkarni of RECPDCL to Piyush Kumar, Head – Business Development (T&D International) at Tata Power, in the presence of officials from Maharashtra State Transmission Utility (STU).

Why This Matters

The completion of these SPV handovers marks a key step in reinforcing Maharashtra’s intra-state transmission infrastructure. Robust transmission systems are essential to:

  • Enable efficient evacuation of power
  • Support renewable energy integration
  • Improve grid reliability and reduce congestion
  • Meet growing industrial and urban electricity demand

The projects also highlight the increasing participation of private players in India’s transmission sector through transparent competitive bidding.

Industry Outlook

With renewable energy capacity expanding rapidly across states, investments in transmission infrastructure are becoming critical. The TBCB model continues to attract strong private sector interest by ensuring transparency, efficiency, and timely project execution.

RECPDCL’s role as a Bid Process Coordinator remains central to India’s efforts to modernise and expand its power transmission network in line with clean energy and grid resilience goals.
