Ola Electric has announced that it has secured the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification and license for its Ola शक्ति 6kW / 9.1 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), powered by the 4680 Bharat Cell. The certification marks a major milestone for India’s residential energy storage ecosystem and reinforces Ola Electric’s ambition to build indigenously designed, engineered, and manufactured clean energy solutions.
With this approval, Ola शक्ति becomes India’s first residential BESS to receive BIS certification under the latest safety and performance standards, enabling the company to begin commercial deliveries of the product across the country.
BIS Certification Validates Safety and Reliability
The BIS license for Ola शक्ति has been granted in conformance with IS 16242 (Part 1): 2025 / IEC 62040-1: 2017, following testing by a BIS-recognised laboratory. This certification confirms that the system meets stringent national and international benchmarks for electrical safety, mechanical integrity, and operational reliability.
As part of the certification process, Ola शक्ति underwent an extensive suite of safety-critical tests, including:
- Short-circuit and overload protection
- Fire and thermal hazard safeguards
- Protection against electric shock
- Environmental stress testing
- Sonic pressure hazard evaluation
- Mechanical hazard assessment
These tests are designed to ensure safe operation under real-world conditions, including voltage fluctuations, high temperatures, dust exposure, and monsoon environments common across India.
India’s First Residential BESS Designed and Made in India
Ola Electric highlighted that Ola शक्ति is fully designed, engineered, and manufactured in India, aligning with the country’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. The system is powered by the company’s 4680 Bharat Cell, representing a significant step toward domestic battery innovation and manufacturing capability.
Unlike traditional backup solutions such as lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, Ola शक्ति is positioned as a modern, clean, and intelligent energy storage solution for homes, farms, and small businesses.

Ola शक्ति has been developed with a strong focus on automotive-grade safety, high efficiency, and low lifecycle costs. The system offers:
- 0 ms instant changeover time, ensuring uninterrupted power supply
- Wide input voltage operating range of 170V–270V, protecting appliances from voltage fluctuations
- Spill-proof design with IP67-rated batteries, tested for dust, water ingress, and monsoon conditions
- Zero running and maintenance costs, compared to conventional backup solutions
The system is capable of powering air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cooktops, farm pumps, and communication equipment, making it suitable for both residential and semi-commercial applications.
Pricing, Configurations, and Availability
Ola शक्ति is available in two configurations:
- 3kW / 5.2 kWh, priced at ₹1,49,999
- 6kW / 9.1 kWh, priced at ₹2,49,999
The 6kW / 9.1 kWh variant offers backup power of up to 1.5 hours at full load, with fast charging capabilities to minimise downtime. The modular design allows it to cater to diverse energy needs, from urban homes to rural and agricultural applications.
The product is available for purchase through the Ola Electric website and Ola Electric stores nationwide. Deliveries for the 9.1 kWh variant are scheduled to begin by the end of January 2026, while deliveries for the 5.2 kWh variant will commence from mid-February 2026.
