EKA Mobility, a leading player in India’s electric mobility sector with equity participation from Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and VDL Groep, has deployed its state-of-the-art EKA 9M electric buses for Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) in Odisha. The deployment has been executed in collaboration with Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., reinforcing the shared commitment to clean, efficient, and future-ready public transport systems.
The buses were flagged off virtually by Mohan Charan Majhi, Honourable Chief Minister of Odisha, marking a significant milestone in the state’s transition toward sustainable and zero-emission urban mobility.

The deployment of EKA 9M electric buses forms part of a broader initiative to modernise and decarbonise public transport services across the capital region. Under the project, a total of 100 EKA electric buses will be rolled out in phases, significantly strengthening CRUT’s public transport network while reducing dependence on conventional fossil-fuel-based buses.
By integrating electric buses into daily operations, CRUT aims to improve commuter experience, service reliability, and environmental performance, particularly in high-density urban corridors. The EKA 9M electric bus is a next-generation, zero-emission urban mobility solution designed to meet the operational demands of modern cities. Featuring a sleek 9-metre configuration, the bus comfortably accommodates 35 passengers and includes wheelchair access, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
Technically, the EKA 9M is powered by a 213 kW electric motor and a 200 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a balance of performance, safety, and long battery life. The bus is engineered for efficient city operations, delivering smooth acceleration, low noise levels, and reduced maintenance requirements compared to conventional diesel buses.
With advanced features and ergonomic design, the EKA 9M is expected to significantly enhance daily commuting experiences, support both urban and peri-urban connectivity, and contribute to long-term reductions in carbon emissions.
