INOX Air Products (INOXAP) has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by flagging off India’s first LNG-fuelled cryogenic tanker, approved by the Petroleum & Safety Organization (PESO). This landmark development marks a significant step toward sustainable logistics in India’s industrial gases sector.
PESO Approval and Policy Framework
The tanker received approval from PESO, operating under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce. INOXAP leveraged a June 2025 amendment to the Static and Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules, 2016, becoming India’s first industrial gas manufacturer to achieve this distinction. This policy change reflects the government’s commitment to promoting LNG as a clean transport fuel.
Launch Ceremony and Technical Specifications
Sh P Seeniraj, Joint Chief Controller of Explosives at PESO Vadodara Circle, officially flagged off the vehicle. The cryogenic tanker features a 450-litre Kryopower LNG fuel tank manufactured by INOX India Ltd, India’s largest cryogenic equipment manufacturer.
Environmental and Operational Benefits
The LNG-fuelled tanker delivers substantial environmental advantages:
- 25% reduction in CO₂ emissions
- 95% decrease in particulate matter
- Quieter operational performance
- Enhanced fuel efficiency
- Long-term cost optimization potential
Industry Leadership Perspective
Siddharth Jain, Director of INOX Group, stated: “INOXAP is spearheading a clean-energy shift in India’s industrial gases sector by flagging off the nation’s first LNG-fuelled cryogenic tanker—a transformative step that redefines sustainable logistics while strengthening supply chains for critical industries.”
Jain emphasized the collaboration between progressive policy frameworks, indigenous engineering excellence, and sustainable innovation. He noted that INOXCVA’s LNG fuel tanks are already widely deployed, highlighting the INOX Group’s leadership in green transportation solutions.
Made in Gujarat Achievement
This milestone represents a true Made-in-Gujarat success story. Both the cryogenic tanker and LNG fuel tank were indigenously designed and manufactured at INOXCVA’s Gujarat facilities. The industrial gases transported will be produced by INOXAP within the state and primarily serve Gujarat-based customers, creating a highly localized and efficient supply chain.
The achievement was enabled by proactive support from Gujarat State Government departments, demonstrating the state’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and industrial growth.
Significance for India’s Green Transport Future
This development sets a new benchmark in sustainable industrial logistics and positions India as a leader in clean transport technology adoption. The success paves the way for wider LNG adoption across India’s commercial vehicle fleet, contributing to the nation’s carbon reduction goals and cleaner air quality initiatives.
